Frequently Asked Questions...

Why are brick, wood and stone floors all so desirable in New Mexico?

Before the modern designs and building materials of today, the early artisans of the southwest chose local materials available to them to build their homes, or “casitas”. Adobe, brick and local species of wood available to them forged a building design loved and used to this very day. This classical design has many built in values: * Cool in the summer, and long lasting in the New Mexico sun and diverse weather. * Warm in the winter, and durable for mud and snow conditions. * Traditional floors are a good investment, because all these elements add value to your home. Buyers and sellers are savvy to this.

Is in-floor heat a necessity for my home?

These in-floor systems have been in service for decades in Europe and the United States. Materials are tested and installation is tried. It can often be planned and installed for a cost similar to conventional heating units. Many New Mexicans have chosen conventional systems, as well as solar or other energy saving systems. It is simply a matter of personal preference and choice.

Which floor system is best: wood, brick or stone?

It is again a matter of choice. Please remember that function and form follow each other. A good way to make this decision is to give thought first as to performance and limitations of each type of floor system, and apply it to the area (i.e. kitchen, bath, study, exterior, interior, etc) to determine which floor type meets your specific needs the best.

What is epoxy and why is it your choice for finishing brick floors?

Simply said: it works, it lasts, it’s clean and cleanable. Epoxy is Greek, meaning: two. An industrial epoxy is soaked into the soft porous brick for 8 to 12 hours, and is made super hard, creating a superior seal, with great wear and longevity. Brick floor systems are bonded by a sand pack between each brick. This part of the system is truly made superior by the epoxy type sealer, as it is bonded together with each brick (5 units per foot), for washing, vacuuming, and life. Epoxy has been our finish of choice for over 25 years.
